I knew I was gonna forget this! (Sorry Mrs. Ramirez... my brain never works right during playoffs!)
I actually enjoyed the beginning of A Doll's House, because the characters were all so quirky. Their different personalities kept it interesting, and actually having different people represent the different characters made it SO much better than just reading it on my own. I find Nora rather annoying- she's too immature and naive.

Week 19, Outside Reading

Week 17, East of Eden
I love Steinbeck's attention to detail as he introduces the setting of the novel. This particular passage stuck out to me:
"The spring flowers in a wet year were unbelievable. The whole valley floor, and the foothills too, would be covered with lupin and poppies. Once a woman told me that colored flowers would seem more bright if you added a few white flowers to give the colors definition. Every petal of blue lupin is edged with white, so that a field of lupins is mre blue than you can imagine. And mixed with these were splashes of Calfornia poppies. These too are of a burning color--not orange, not gold, but if pure gold were liquid and could raise a cream, that golden cream might be like the color of those poppies."
He doesn't just say the poppies were gold. He doesn't stop there. He talks about the poppies just how he remembers then, and he takes his time to describe them perfectly. I don't see any foreshadowing in the first chapter and I'm not completely sure what the book will be about, but the first chapter has my attention.
